openning up to change

this video of a talk by John Francis was brought to my attention and i'd like you to see it too. i didn't know his story before. his experience relates to how i've been thinking about approaching this tour in the way he decided to focus on listening instead of on speaking.

i found this related quote from Kim Rosen in an interview published in the Sun magazine (Dec 2010):

'maybe the u.s.- and please forgive me the audacity of the sweeping generalization - doesn't want to be reminded of it's limitations, its kinship with all life. it doesn't want to look into poetry's truthful mirror. as a country the u.s. has been indentified with strong will. we've 'pulled ourselves up by our bootstraps." maybe poetry, real poetry, requires a healthy surrender of willfulness. maybe it demands a willingness to be changed, to be affected, to reveal our wounds without denial or muscling through.'

  1. So enjoying John Francis's book "Planet Walker"...I just had to google him up and leap ahead to see what was happening in his life today. WOW. And you know Davis, it sounds as tho when he really got underway, he too was in or nearing his saturn return.
This morning Ruby's pictures of goats/Wild Edge were "shared" on FB...talk about walking in beauty. Gorgeous photos and really sweet to see Gypsy too. Rivkah was tickled at the sharing, to hear up to the minute report....she said the Francis book came from the exchange!!
so, carry on......island love with you. J.
